What do you enjoy about working here?

I enjoy getting to walk alongside Women during a major life event and helping to educate them on resources and programs available to them. The staff are all very friendly and encouraging.

I have 4 children and have been  married to my high school sweetheart for 9 years. Outside of work I enjoy baking and going on adventures with my family.

What do you want people to know about Options?

I want people to know that Options is a clinic full of caring staff members who want to help educate and comfort women in crisis.

What do you do at Options?
I interact with patients by going over their health histories, running pregnancy tests, and performing ultrasounds.  I also get to follow-up with patients periodically throughout their pregnancies, seeing how things are going and if they need anything.  If we can offer them something here, like a model ultrasound or more prenatal vitamins, great!  But if we don’t have what they need, then it’s nice to see if there are other places in the area that we can point them to where those needs can be met.

How long have you been here?
I started working here in July of 2021, so almost one year.

What do you enjoy about working here?
I really enjoy the patient interactions.  Some women have been wanting to be pregnant for a long time, while others were not expecting or desiring to find themselves pregnant.  It is a privilege to talk with all of them.  For those who get the results they were hoping, it is wonderful to share their joy!  And for those who are disappointed, it is humbling to be able to offer what support and encouragement I can.

Tell us more about you!
I have wanted to help women facing unexpected pregnancies since I was about 16 years old.  The path that God placed me on then was not always clear, but He showed me the next steps as He was ready for me to see them.  Now, I not only get to help women like I have longed to do for the past 8 years or so, but I also get to work alongside lovely Christian women who are just as passionate about helping these mothers and their babies as I am!  Outside of Options, I enjoy music and teach a few private piano lessons each week.  I also enjoy reading and sewing and doing various outdoor activities with my husband!

What do you want people to know about Options?
I want people to know that here at Options, we do not pretend to know all the answers.  The nurses do their best to know the answers to the various health-related questions that women may ask, and all of our staff keeps updated on resources and support available to women in the local area.  But we know that it would be impossible for anyone to know the answers to every question that our patients may have.  If we do not have an answer, we are committed to either finding the answer or pointing our patients in the right direction.  Our hope is that everyone who comes to visit us will leave feeling encouraged, empowered, and equipped for the challenges that they are facing in life.

What do you do at Options?

I am an administrative assistant and also a patient care advocate. Currently, I am running our social media pages, coordinating the baby bottle fundraiser, meeting with patients, and helping out around the office where needed.

How long have you been here?

I have been at Options for about 7 months and am the newest employee 😊

What do you enjoy about working here?

So many things! The staff, the work/life balance, the short commute, feeling a sense of purpose in what I do, using the coin machine, seeing babies, encouraging and loving on people, the faith based environment, being creative through social media.

Tell us more about you!!

I am originally from California but moved to Oregon in 2015 to attend OSU. I first learned about Options when Karen visited my church with the mobile clinic in 2019. I felt lead by God to reach out to Options in September of 2021 to see if there were any open positions available and there was! I believe the position that opened up, that I accepted, was the perfect fit for me in regards to my interests and prior experience. When I am not working at Options, you can find me watching movies with my husband, thrift shopping, making jewelry, playing board/card games with my friends, going on hikes with my dogs, facetiming with my family in California and dreaming about my next adventure.

What do you want people to know about Options?

I really want people to know that they will never feel judged here. That this is a safe place to bring any hurts, traumas, uncertainties and fears, and that whoever meets with them will love them where they are at and show them that they are not alone.

What do you do at Options?
I am one of the nurse managers here at Options. I perform pregnancy tests and ultrasound exams to confirm pregnancy, detect fetal cardiac activity and determine gestational age. I share information regarding the options available for our clients. I assist with community resource and physician referrals and give moral support to families, contacting them periodically throughout their pregnancy and after delivery.

How long have you been here?
I have been here since November 2019. I have had a heart for children my whole life and feel so blessed to be at Options working with women in our community as they discover new life, the unseen children of our world.

What do you enjoy about working here?
I love so many things about working here! I enjoy working with a group of inspiring women who encourage me to be better. I feel so privileged to be part of life changing moments of the women in our community, to be able to rejoice or offer comfort depending on the circumstances and experience the wonder and miracle of imago dei in utero life!

Tell us more about you!!
I am the mother of three adult children. I have two grandsons and one grandchild in the oven😊 I love gardening, travel, and reading. I breed cavapoo dogs and home school my grandson Caden. I’m blessed to have my children and siblings live nearby and feel that time spent with family is my favorite way to spend a day. My hubby and I will be celebrating 30 years of marriage in August, ( Lord willing) and have an epic trip planned to Alaska to celebrate in style😊

What do you want people to know about Options?
Options is a wonderful place for woman that provides pregnancy tests and ultrasounds at no cost. We have numerous resources that we can refer or direct families to for support in all situations. We strive to be an emotional as well as a practical support in a loving non-judgmental manner to woman and their families in our community.

What I’ve learned after 25 years

It seemed pretty straightforward when I started at what was then known as Corvallis Pregnancy Care Center, now known at Options. My job was to oversee a little non-profit with a mission of helping women facing an unplanned pregnancy. And being the only person in a paid position, I met with a majority of the women who came in for help. At that time, our mission was to provide pregnancy testing, helping meet emotional needs and practical help in the form of material assistance.
As I met with women and heard what was happening in their lives, I often felt as though some of our services, especially material assistance, became a band-aid for a much bigger issue. Not every woman who comes to us is pregnant. Maybe that’s a relief, or maybe there’s a deeply hidden desire that the test would be positive this time. No matter what was going on, women really just wanted to be heard. AND they wanted information that would help them move through the next phase of life – whatever that was for them.
What appeared to be straightforward in the beginning began shifting into how to better meet the needs of the variety of women who came through our doors. Education seemed to be key. The services we offered had to help address those educational needs. As we added a nursing team to our staff, medical questions could be better addressed. Ultrasounds became a customary part of every patient with a positive test. We were now able to provide women with more information than ever before. It’s inspiring to actually observe healthy resolve when a woman has the tools she needs to process information.
Professionalism seemed to be integral to the process. Women are inherently wise and want to be treated in such a way that gives them a chance to express that wisdom. Treating them with kindness in a professional setting naturally brings about opportunities for that to happen. We don’t want to be told what to do – we want to be asked what’s on our mind.

One Final Thought

I’ve learned to expect change. And yet, giving women a safe place to share their stories should never change. We need each other.
